Care Maintenance Guide

It is our commitment to craft the highest quality boots that are both comfortable and durable.

To maintain the impeccable quality of your LM Boots, please follow these care instructions diligently:

In La Mundial we manufacture our boots with premium quality leathers, and as with any natural leather product, it is important to perform regular maintenance to preserve the longevity and durability of your boots.

Leather Care.
It is important to regularly perform maintenance on the leather to preserve its longevity and durability. After riding in or wearing your boots, gently wipe your boots with a damp cloth to remove any dirt and/or mud buildup, especially in any creases or seams. If dirt buildup is not removed, your boots will age faster and potentially develop wrinkles in the area where the boot bends.

Boots are constantly exposed to those elements, so the leather, as any skin, needs to be hydrated and consistently cared for. To keep the leather hydrated and well-cared for, apply a hand cream or leather moisturizing product both inside and outside of the boots. After 24 hrs that the boot leather has been treated with the hand cream, you are free to use a quality polish to shine your boots. For daily use, we recommend weekly treatment, while monthly treatment is sufficient if wearing the boots only a few times a month.

Zipper & Snaps Care.

Sand and dirt will inevitably work their way into the zipper and can damage it if it is not cleaned. Eventually, when the slider goes over the nylon it will break the seams and in time break the zipper. To avoid that inconvenience it is important to clean your zippers once a week with a brush and put gun oil lubricant to the nylon so when the slider passes through the zipper does not break.

Similar to zippers, it’s important to apply gun oil lubricant to your snaps. Once the oil is applied, use a cloth to wipe away any residue or rust that may have accumulated on the snaps. Make sure to clean both ends of the snaps. This simple step will help maintain the snap’s functionality and prevent corrosion.

Inside Patch.
The inside patch must be clean with a damped cloth followed by a hand cream or quality moisturizing product for leather.

We also provide the following recommendations to maintain the pristine condition of your boots:

  • Brush off accumulated dirt from your LMBoots.
  • Dry wet boots at room temperature. Avoid using any form of electric heat or drying in direct sunlight. Leather is a natural material and can shrink or get damaged.
  • Condition the leather on a regular basis with a high-quality leather conditioner purchased from any local shoe store or with your regular hand cream. Treating your leather can prevent cracks and wrinkles as well as lengthen the life of your LM Boots.
  • To prevent wrinkles when your boots are not in use, we recommend inserting wooden or plastic trees in your boots to keep them in standing position. You can also use rolled-up magazines, bags or even empty water bottles to keep your boots upright.
  • When clean and dry, we recommend polishing all LM Boots and shoes to buff out any scratches or scuffs. We recommend any polish in a tin, in colors similar to your boots. Neutral polish can be used for lighter-colored boots.

Please note: We do NOT recommend the use of leather conditioners on our high-shine Dressage Boots (crafted in semi-gloss Brush-up leather). A leather conditioner may be used on the interior panel of the boot to enhance softness where your leg meets the horse.

Fitting

We want your LM Boots to fit perfectly and provide utmost comfort while riding. Here are some important tips to ensure the right fit and care for your boots:

  • Put your boots on while standing. Lower the slider body of the zipper all the way down. Place your foot in the boot and push it well towards the front of the foot bed, as far into the toe box of the boot as possible.
  • Sit down in order to zip up your boots. Reach with your right hand to zip your left boot, being careful not to catch the zipper on your clothing. It can be helpful to raise the zipper with the fingers of your opposite hand placed behind the slider body to ensure your clothing doesn’t catch in the zipper. For further help, use our new pulling cord
  • Repeat using your left hand to zip your right boot, again guiding the zipper slider as needed.
  • To remove your boots, make sure the zipper is not caught on your clothing, and carefully lowered to a full open position.
  • For boots with twisted zippers (twisted either to the inside or outside), we recommend the use of a shoe horn to put on your boots the first few times you use them. This model of zipper makes the ankle of the boot wider than the zipper in the back.
  • Classic Dressage boots #40: This boot model is straight at the ankle. In no case can the ankle be tight since the heel is very high, this prevents it from chafing against the ankle.

Foot Bed.
The foot area must feel comfortable when it comes to the length; however, it is completely normal for the foot bed to feel a bit snug at first. LM Boots manufactures each pair of boots based on each customer’s needs and measurements, but as any new shoe, the foot bed will feel more comfortable as the leather naturally stretches to the shape of your foot.

If you feel that the pressure is too much or if the foot bed is too long for your foot, please start the adjustment process available on our App.

Spanish Top.
The “Spanish Top” is the pronounced curved extension of the leather on the outside edge of the boot shaft. As with the overall height of your boots, it is absolutely normal for the “Spanish Top” to feel a bit too tall at first. We recommend wearing your boots for limited periods initially until a natural drop occurs. If the boot is too tall or too short, please visit our app and follow the instructions for the adjustment process.

Drop of the Boot.
LM specializes in manufacturing tall boots that accentuate the length of your leg for an elegant look while riding. Our group fitters, shoemakers and designers have calculated the ideal height of your boot with normal “drop” (the natural tendency of custom leather boots to drop in height over time).

This ensures that even after your boots drop, they are tall enough for you to maintain the proper height, and the elegant look desired in English riding.

It is absolutely normal for the boots to feel a bit too tall at the beginning. We recommend that you ride with your new boots for some weeks as they drop. You may wish to use boot pulls, boot powder or even heel lifts if necessary until the “drop” occurs.

A Hunter/Jumper and Eventing model tends to “drop” more than a Dressage model; this occurs because the Dressage boots are stiffer at the shaft than Hunter/Jumper and Eventing boots.

Fit at calf and ankle.

The width of your boot is important as well. It is absolutely normal for the boots to feel a bit too snug on your leg at the beginning. The highly tailored ankle and leg of LM Boots are designed specifically to prevent future excessive folds around your ankle. It’s best to wear your boots with nylon knee-highs instead of thicker boot socks to allow the leather to naturally stretch to your legs.

If the height or fit is causing too much pressure you can wet your boot with warm water (not boiling) and then wear them until dry.

In case of any problem with the fitting of your boots, please DON’T use your boots outdoors and DON’T ride in them.

Last Updates.

Zipper.

We use YKK zippers with an auto-lock system.
Additionally, to make sure the zipper lock stays in place, we added an extra snap at the top of the zipper.

Leather Shoe Horn.

We also implemented a leather shoe horn inside the boot to help put the shoe on easily and protect your heel from the zipper.

Pulling Cord.

To give extra help, we added a cord to pull up the zipper and make it easier for our customers to wear our boots.
